Saturday, June 27: Play the photography website off, Keyboard Cat.

Play Helen off Keyboard Cat. And then join Daryl and John.

Friday, June 26: New music Friday- this time it's Imogene Heap. A pretty righteous video. Talk about a one woman band. Also check out her (embedding disabled) videos Hide and Seek and Say Goodnight and Go.

Monday, June 22: Good new (I hope you think so): I'll be getting around to posting some pictures from 2009. I've taken a lot of time off to refocus the direction I'd like to take my photography. I've been a little disillusioned lately about the work I was doing and needed some time off. I'll probably even take the 'Photography' off the website title. I'm even toying with the idea of dropping the site all together and just sticking with MySpace and Facebook. I currently do all these updates thru Microsoft FrontPage which requires me to be at my PC at home. Just using the *FREE* social sites would allow me to update from any PC. The biggest hurdle would be changing my email since I would no longer have the domain (allenkent.net). But the more I think about it, the less of a big deal it seems to be.

Friday, June 19Reliant K is one of my favorite bands. Unfortunately, all their official videos on YouTube have embedding disabled. (If anyone can explain this to me, by the way, please email me. I don't understand how bands [or their management, label, etc] wouldn't want their videos played as much as possible for publicity). You'll just have to do a search on the band name to see how great they are.

Anyway, here's a school project video to their song Sadie Hawkins Dance. I have to say, they did a pretty good job and the video has over 800,000 plays (and it will give you a little taste of the band).

Sunday, June 14: This is a little out the ordinary to post but I thought it was kinda neat. Two teenage girls who post covers on YouTube. Not too bad. Here's Emily and Fiona.

Friday, June 5: New music Friday! Actually, this band is no longer around but unless you were into Sk8 music or contemporary punk you probably don't know who they were: subseven. The name 'subseven' is short for "submitted to God". "sub" means "submitted" and "seven" meaning God's number. All lower case, FYI. On an interesting side note, after the video shoot of the song Hold On at the Green Door, the band announced that they would be breaking up, and played a farewell show to the audience that showed up to be in the video.

Tuesday, June 2: Well, I worked late and missed my blood donation appointment Monday night but I made up for it. I did my first 'double donor' via apheresis. Read about it here on Wiki.

Monday, June 1: Um, pardon me. What did you do with May? (I can't believe it's already June)

Anyway, like Monty Python used to say- and now for something completely different... I love me some Henry V. To connect the dots (follow my thought process on this) I was watching Band of Brothers the other day and thought about Henry V (for those that don't know, that's where the phrase 'band of brothers' comes from).

To sum up, here's the story:

Young king assumes England's throne and tells France to give back the land that used to belong to them. France is not so impressed as this young man had a reputation of being fun-loving noble, not experienced in the affairs of state and therefore, not taken too seriously. France sends back this response via courier-

Being not too amused with the offer of tennis balls, the young king sends this reply:

Which ends up leading to war between the two. It's during the motivational speech the king gives his troops that we are introduced to the phase 'band of brothers'-

SPOILER WARNING: England wins in the end.

Sunday, May 31: I was looking up some old They Might Be Giants videos on YouTube and came across some of their newer stuff for kids. The whole family has been singing this song ever since. (warning- it will get stuck in your brain)

Saturday, May 30: As I get ready to do my Dad thing this weekend (yard work, etc.) I'm here to remind everyone that I am a Manly Man.

Friday, May 29: New music Fridays- If you're not listening to Run Kid Run then you're really missing out.

We've Only Just Begun - Embedding was disabled for this one but it's well worth pulling up via YouTube.

Thursday, May 28: There are no new ideas left....

Wednesday, May 27: Definitely something I've got to try sometime: now and then photos- One  Two  Three  Four  Five  Six  Seven Eight

And now to prove that no one is exempt from the ravages of time: Alec Baldwin, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Clint Eastwood, Pierce Brosnan, Richard Gere, Roger Moore, Val Kilmer and (ahem) yours truly.

Tuesday, May 26: You say you want to commit suicide?

Wow, this reminds me of Lethal Weapon when Mel Gibson was asked to talk a jumper down. This guy is thinking of jumping off a bridge when another guy passing by basically decides to help him. I think he's a bigger nut than the jumper. Look at the way he just scrambles up there! And the whole reason? This is a popular place for jumpers to go and he's tired of them tying up traffic, etc as it takes hours for them to make up their mind if they're going to do it or not. All I can hear is Eli Wallach in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly saying "If you have to shoot, shoot- don't talk."

The story is here.

Monday, May 25- MEMORIAL DAY!: A special thanks today to all veterans as we remember those who have fallen in service to our country.

Now days, I think about military service in a much different way. I served in the Air Force during peacetime between Vietnam and Desert Shield/Storm. My son is in JROTC and will possibly enlist in the Army after high school in three more years. What with the reduction of forces planned in Iraq and the buildup in Afghanistan over the next several years- not to mention what may (or should?) develop with Pakistan (harboring terrorists and a nuclear capability)- well, it's not hard to put two and two together and see that my son may soon be in harm's way.

Right now he still has that look on his face like when Tom Cruise was recruited in Born on the Fourth of July. He all moon-pie eyed about guns, the uniform and romanticized patriotic duty. Don't get me wrong, I know about duty. (i.e. service to God- doing what your supposed to even- and especially- when you don't feel like it). But it's my job to make sure he's not misled or uninformed.

With that being said, I thought I'd offer up a couple of PDF files from The Boston Globe's site The Big Picture. Not to put too fine a point on it but hopefully these pictures will give a idea of the sacrifices a few make for the many.....

Recent Scenes from Afghanistan (warning: you may find some images disurbing. I didn't find any overly graphic but you may find them more emotionally unsettling)

Sunday, May 24: As you  can see there haven't been any updates since the New Year started. I took a short sabattical (with the occasional exception) and decided I would probably start keeping this site out of a more personal than professional nature. I dread to use it, but yes- the 'B' word- blog. There just aren't enough of them (har har). I'd like to have it where people can leave comments but decided against it for two reasons. First, I think almost everyone is too lazy to comment (not to mention the spammers out there). Second, I'm too lazy to learn WordPress.  o_0   lulz  Check back for updates when you want. I'll be posting randomly and occasionally.

To kick things off in a new direction, here's a couple of YouTube videos. I got Rock Band 2 for the XBox this past Christmas for the family. I've gotten a little addicted to playing (dare we say 'learning'?) the drums. I've definitely gotten much better which isn't saying much because I could barely hold a beat when I started. I eventually got around to looking up some clips and found this guy (dwdrummer2112). I also like watching him because he covers Christian rock songs.
